Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger were married in 1993. They divorced in 2002 after years of legal turmoil.
Alec Baldwin published a book in 2008: “A Promise to Ourselves: A Journey Through Fatherhood and Divorce” claiming that Basinger had alienated him from his daughter ‘Ireland’ and was obstructing contact.
According to the San Diego Tribune, Basinger’s campaign of Parental Alienation is “well-documented” and was even condemned by her own mother.
Baldwin was scathing about the ‘system’:
"I don't care if the judges and the lawyers die of heart attacks in the process of getting their job done," he said. "They are corrupt, inefficient, lazy, stupid—they're the most God-awful people."
In 2007, Baldwin found himself in the news, following a phone call that was recorded on voicemail where he called her a “rude, thoughtless pig” for not being around to take a scheduled phone call from him. He has since apologised unreservedly and has been forgiven by Ireland. Dad and daughter have since managed to see the funny side of it, and, as far as Basinger was concerned in 2016, her relationship with Baldwin was much better and they were now, apparently “cool”.
It’s a great tribute to Ireland that she has survived all this with flying colours and appears to have “a great relationship” with her dad.
